Ilgaz Ulusoy Casey
She has been an active theatre enthusiast since 2006, and performing, teaching, writing, producing plays since then. Her passion in theatre making quickly overthrew her engineering career which led her getting a master’s degree in Cultural Studies with a thesis entitled “Seyyar Sahne: Exploring Craftsmanship in Acting”. Alongside her academic studies at the university, she had been a part of a theatre company called Seyyar Sahne, with whom she became one of the founders of Theatre Madrasa, the first performance research center of Turkey.
As a person who believes in the importance of body awareness as an existential phenomenon, Ilgaz has been aiming to achieve this awareness in her artistic path as well. As a result, the last decade of her theatre career has focused on coaching actors through movement and voice which increased her curiosity regarding movement as a creative tool for self-expression. To pursue her growing interest in movement she decided to study movement analysis at Integrated Movement Studies (Salt Lake City, Utah) and got certified as Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst in January, 2020. Along with her theatre career, she aims to reach out to the larger community, and guide people through the freedom of self-expression that comes with the joy of moving.
